“We are a local family who used Pop In Care some 2 years ago for approximately 18 months, for my husband who had a rare and terminal neurological disease. His disease was not well known and it was very difficult for us as a family to access any knowledge or help medically - in fact our neurologist actually sent us home saying sorry nothing anyone could do. As time went on and the disease progressed and therefore symptoms progressed we needed some care at home desperately. Janelle came to visit us and assured us she could help - we got her to come in and take over my husbands care, medication and to give me a break from all the symptoms of his disease. It probably isn’t an exaggeration to say she saved my sanity. We couldn’t fault her professionalism her level of care, her constant availability to talk things over and her absolute dedication to making my husband comfortable, happy and engaged. Janelle treated us all with huge respect, humour and humility. We feel very privileged to have had her look after our family member up until the time of his death. If you require any further information I would be very happy to talk to you about the level of care and dedication this company gave to us.”
“We are a local Auckland family who highly recommends Janelle Ellis and her amazing team at Pop In Care. In 2020 my father, William Rainger, 87, was suffering from deteriorating health but still living independently, in his one-bedroom apartment at Sir Edmund Hillary retirement village in Ellerslie, Auckland. Increasingly it became obvious he would need additional support, and it was around this time we engaged Janelle and her team. What a difference this made! From the start, Janelle made it clear Pop In Care is primarily a companion support service and for the primary medical care we should continue to engage with the Auckland District Health Board. Which we did. But what I didn’t expect is how quickly the benefits of companionship would kick in and what an improvement it would make. Suddenly with Pop In Care visiting dad regularly, he found his mojo, his smile, his happy place. It transformed his mood and really right up until the point he eventually had to go to hospital – and ultimately passed away – the support and camaraderie of the Pop In Care enhanced dads life in ways I never imagined and for that I will be eternally grateful. It goes without saying I unreservedly recommend Janelle Ellis and her team at Pop In Care."
“Our experience of Abode is that they are professional and caring. We are grateful that they were able to relieve a lot of the stress we were under caring for our Mum, providing help for us within a couple of days of contacting them.
The carers, who Mum came to call “Her Girls”, were competent and always on time, going further than just meeting Mum’s physical needs. All the carers had a genuine concern for Mum and made huge efforts to connect and enrich her day, not always an easy thing to do with someone who has dementia!
The meals prepared for Mum were healthy, nutritious and interesting and Mum’s other physical needs were tended to diligently. Janelle was very particular as to who would be a good fit for Mum and able to execute the level of care needed - this extended to making sure Mum was safely in bed and the property secured before her carers left. To her credit Janelle was not prepared to compromise who she would engage for this role, even though due to our location it was challenging to fill every evening with a carer of the calibre that Janelle felt was required. Having good communication made this easier for us to manage the evenings we needed to cover.
We employed Abode to look after Mum, but the compassion that was extended to Mum was also given to us, for which we are also very grateful.”
